Nightshade-Free, Allergy-Friendly Seasoning Salt

INGREDIENTS in this recipe:

Salt
Onion powder
Sugar
Nutritional yeast
Turmeric
Celery seed

When you’re allergic to nightshades, there is no safe store-bought seasoned salt, because they all contain paprika. And if you’re also allergic to mint-family herbs (think oregano, basil, thyme) AND sensitive to garlic, good luck finding any pre-made seasoning mix you can have! So I do all of my own seasoning from scratch. The other day, I was craving something savory to put on my rice crackers, and searched online for diy nightshade-free seasoned salt. There was only one single recipe, from Arika, who posts AIP recipes over at Food Courage (definitely head over to see her other recipes, including a great looking nomato sauce). I wanted something a little different, and came up with the following. I love the way it turned out and have been sprinkling it on everything from guacamole to hummus to popcorn! Oddly, it tastes WAY better than it smells—I think the turmeric may give a strong bitter smell, but it’s quite pleasant to eat. I hope you like it too!

Nightshade-Free, Allergy-Friendly Seasoning Salt

2 Tablespoons salt, such as Pink Himalayan
2 Tablespoons onion powder
1 Tablespoon organic cane sugar
1 Tablespoon nutritional yeast
1/2 Tablespoon turmeric
3/4 teaspoon celery seed

Mix all ingredients thoroughly and store in an empty spice jar.
